FAQs

When should I start prenatal education?
It is important to educate yourself during pregnancy. Attending classes and sharing thoughts and concerns with other couples will aid you in making informed decisions with your health care provider during the birthing process. Most people prefer to take childbirth preparation classes, depending on the type of class (one day, weekend or a weekly series) around week 28-34 of pregnancy. Schedule classes early to ensure that your first choice for classes is available to you and in the time frame that fits your personal schedule.

What classes are recommended?
Select classes that help you become confident about birthing, caring for and feeding your newborn. At the very least, we suggest you take childbirth, baby essentials, breastfeeding, infant CPR and Car Seat Safety.

When are classes held?
Flexible class schedules are available, including weeknight and Saturday classes. Some classes can be completed in one day, while others are split into multiple sessions, so as to accommodate busy schedules.

Where are classes held?
We have classes throughout the city, in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Canton and Forsyth. Choose the location convenient to either your work or home. Go to www.northside.com for directions to any of our locations.

If I have to go on bed rest, can I still take classes?
Expectant mothers on bed rest have two options. Check with your health care professional to see if you could attend class while reclining in a chair; if so we have one for you to use. You also may call 404-845-5555 to arrange for a private class, or take an e-learning childbirth class online at www.northside.com.

What if there are no classes available before my due date?
If we receive advance notice, we may be able to add another class. Otherwise, please call 404-845-5555 and we will try to accommodate you.

Does insurance cover class costs?
Possibly. We suggest you contact your insurance provider to find out what your specific provider covers. Some couples have been able to submit the cost of classes, along with a receipt, in order to apply for reimbursement.

Are discounts available?
Yes. Register for our “stimulus package” or sign up for any 3 classes (of your choice) and receive a discount. You can combine “before baby” and “after baby” classes.

Is registration required or are walk-ins accepted?
Registration is required. Class size is limited so each participant has the best opportunity for learning. We also prepare class materials ahead of time and cannot accommodate people who have not previously registered.

Will I get a refund if I cancel my registration?
If you cancel or reschedule within 10 days of the start date, there is a $15 rescheduling or cancellation fee, unless the cancellation is for a medical or emergency reason. We reserve the right to move or cancel classes when minimum registration requirements are not met, but will do our best to reschedule you for the earliest time possible.

What should I do if I have trouble with the online registration?
You can always pick up the phone and give us a call at 404-845-5555. If you are calling other than during normal business hours, please leave a message and we will call you back as soon as possible to assist you with scheduling your classes by phone.

Are there any materials that I need to bring to class?
After completing your registration form, you will receive a confirmation letter, indicating your class time, location and additional items you may need to bring with you.

Can I bring my child with me to class?
Unfortunately, no. However, if you would like to have your children experience a hospital tour, Family Tours are available. For available dates and times, visit www.northside.com.
